Peter Johnson demonstration.
Well done Peter for yet another great demonstration this time tuning a goblet.
Inside first
Peter turned the inside of the goblet first while there was plenty of wood to stabilize the blank.
The outside
Peter supported the goblet using a plug supported from the tailstock end.
Shaping up
The goblet is now taking shape..
Off the lathe
Just the finishing and parting off left to do.
Example
This is one Peter made and brought along to show us, this one had two captive rings.
Perfect
Another slender example.
Fixtures and fittings ?
The usual draw with the usual members taking the cash.
Adrian Jacobs demonstration.
Our second demonstration was given by Adrian who filled the evening with jesmonite fillers and laser etching.
The filler.
Adrian turned a bowl ready to add the Jesmonite rim.
In the groove !
Adrian then turned a a piece of MDF and turned out a groove and filled it with the ready mixed filler.
Left to cure.
the bowl was placed onto the Jesmonite and left to dry.
Remount
The bowl was then placed back on the lathe and the MDF turned away to reveal the rim.
Example one.
A completed bowl that Adrian brought along.
Example two.
Another example.
Laser.
Adrian was all set up to demonstrate the way he uses a laser to add decoration to turned items, unfortunately not all went to plan- ELECTRICS !!!!!
Interesting.
We were able to see the laser in action using a screen to protect the eyes !
Masterpiece.
One of Adrian's completed decorated bowl lovely example.
Same one
Same bowl at a different angle.
Other uses
The laser etcher can be used in other ways this is a example of a sign.
More options.
And a cutting board.
Example
Another sign made using the laser.
