Colwin Way
Special night tonight with the very popular Colwin Way demonstrating for us.
The rocking soldier
Colwin showed us how he sets about making his delightful rocking soldiers and started with turning the horses rocking body.
The horse
The disc is then cut in half and used for the horses body.
The soldiers body etc.
He carried on turning the main body head and waist area lightly sanding to a smooth finish.
The arms
Shaping of the hand and arms was carried out with the skew chisel ( not for the faint hearted ).
Other parts
The hat was turned but the other parts like the
hat rim an legs was fashioned from a good quality plywood, the horses head from pine and shaped on a sanding disc.
Tail
The tail was turned in a contrasting colour wood.
Moustache.
The moustache was also turned and the back sanded to fit the contour of the face.
Nose
A nose was added.
Completed rocker.
A competed rocker that Colwin brought along painted and embellished.
Nutcracker soldier.
A nutcracker soldier that Colwin brought along.
Christmas tree
He went on to turn a Christmas in this style.

And this one was done with a skew chisel.
A small bowl.
He also made a small thin sided bowl.
Pendants.
Colwin also makes pendants from wood and resin.
Members.
A good amount of members were attracted tonight
I believe over 60 attended to make the evening a successes.
