John Rockey
Our demonstrator for tonight was John Rockey a regular at the club, tonight John showed us some colouring techniques that he uses.
Turning a T light holder
John started by mounting a blank of Sycamore on the chuck and turning it to the round.
Drilling
Once turned he started to drill out the hole to accommodate the T light, John started with a small twist drill to prevent overheating the wood.
Larger drill.
He stepped up to a larger forstner bit.
Final drilling
John used a larger bit to complete the drilling.
Punching rings.
When complete and sanded he used hole punches of different sizes to create a pattern on the rim.
Colouring
He then used a coloured wax paste to fill the rings
and removed the excess.
Other techniques.
John used a multi tool and a diamond burr to create a worm like pattern.
Colouring.
Silver paint was applied to create the effect.
New pattern.
A new pattern was then applied using the same tool with a different burr which created small holes.
Adding colour.
The holes where then coloured in using different pens.
