Stephen Long
Stephen stood up again tonight and enlightened us on long hole boring techniques.
Stephen's demonstration
I don't think he was in over his head just showing us how long one could make a lamp standard.
Drilling
Stephen used one type of auger to slowly drill out the long hole.
Chippings
He said that the auger had to be withdrawn and cleared of swarf to prevent over heating and jamming up.
Drilling a larger hole.
Stephen used a G clamp to hold the square stock on the lathe.
Drilling out
He held the G clamp securely with one hand and started the lathe on a low speed and using the drive centre as a drill proceeded to drill out the hole.
Long holes
The end result on three segments from one end.
